Unmentionable Sundial Cuff Instructions

Using a sundial compass wristwatch is a great way to combine traditional timekeeping with navigation. Here’s how to use one effectively:

1. Finding True North

  • Locate the Compass: Identify the compass dial on your wristwatch. This is usually a rotating bezel or a fixed dial.
  • Hold the Watch Level: Position your wristwatch flat and level in front of you.

2. Using the Sundial

  • Positioning the Watch: For sundial use, turn the watch so that the hour hand points toward the sun.
  • Read the Sundial: The shadow cast by the gnomon (the hour hand) will indicate the hour. Depending on the design, you may need to adjust for the angle of the sun and the watch's orientation.

3. Finding Your Direction

  • Align with the Compass: Rotate the watch until the magnetic needle aligns with the compass markings. This will show you true north.

4. Interpreting the Information

  • Combining Both Tools: Use the time indicated by the sundial and the direction from the compass to navigate effectively.
  • Keep Practicing: Familiarize yourself with reading both the sundial and compass in different conditions.

Tips:

  • Best Conditions: Use the sundial in sunny weather; it won't work well on cloudy days.
  • Regular Calibration: Check your compass regularly for accuracy, especially if you've been near magnetic interference (like electronic devices).

With a little practice, you’ll be able to use your sundial compass wristwatch with confidence!
